Obesity in this country
In today's society and there are many causes that point directly to the increasing number of a huge issue of Obesity. Some of them include; lack of exercise, lack of a healthy diet and increasing portion sizes, but the list does not stop there. Obesity is becoming more and more prevalent in today's world. No state in the US has a prevalence of obesity under 20%. That number is too high. According to the CDC, the percent of adults over the age of 20 that are considered obese is 69%. These numbers have done nothing but grow over the years. Let's take a stand to obesity and do everything we can to make society a healthier population!

Improvements to Old Thompson: An idea in the making
Ever wonder what it would be like to have not only one, but two turf fields on campus? This thought has crossed my mind constantly. I play on the lacrosse team here at SRU and during our preseason, we practice on the grasstex because it is too cold in January to practice outside. As a result of practicing on that hard floor in the field house, many cases of compartment syndrome have come up. Compartment syndrome is a build up of pressure in a certain compartment of the body. I had to have surgery to fix this and I believe that if we had a second turf with a bubble on top for the cold winter season, the number of compartment cases would definitely go down. Hopefully the transition of Old Thompson can be made possible for future athletes!

Wrapping up the Fall season!
It's come that sad time of the year as we wrap up our fall ball season and look on to the preseason as January approaches! This fall lacrosse season was filled with a ton of motivation and of course lots of fun and laughs. The Women's lacrosse team at SRU is ready to show the PSAC that we're here to win and we won't be taking any team or game lightly come spring. We all have one big goal and we won't be satisfied until we come home with a PSAC champ title and a nice shiny ring on our fingers. Come out and support the Slippery Rock women's lacrosse team in March as we start our season! Go Rock!

Musculoskeletal Disorders
Some of the most common musculoskeletal
disorders that result from little physical activity include osteoporosis and
osteoarthritis. The prevalence of each of these disorders is pretty scary. For
osteoporosis, it is estimated that 44 million Americans and over 50% of those
44 million are over 50. For osteoarthritis, approximately 27 million adults in
the US suffer. There are a number of modifiable risk factors for both
disorders. The biggest risk factor is physical inactivity, but others can
include tobacco us, being thin, or underweight, alcohol abuse and many more.
Just eliminating these problems from your everyday routine or lifestyle can
help to prevent the horrible disorders from happening to you!
