Improvements to Old Thompson: An idea in the making

Ever wonder what it would be like to have not only one, but two turf fields on campus? This thought has crossed my mind constantly. I play on the lacrosse team here at SRU and during our preseason, we practice on the grasstex because it is too cold in January to practice outside. As a result of practicing on that hard floor in the field house, many cases of compartment syndrome have come up. Compartment syndrome is a build up of pressure in a certain compartment of the body. I had to have surgery to fix this and I believe that if we had a second turf with a bubble on top for the cold winter season, the number of compartment cases would definitely go down. Hopefully the transition of Old Thompson can be made possible for future athletes!

  1. I completely agree this change should be done! Even the track team goes to old thompson to practice sometimes and running on the grass and cement builds compartment issues for sprinters too. We have the option of using the field house but what about the other sports? I hope the transition is made too! Good idea and good luck!
