Some of the most common musculoskeletal
disorders that result from little physical activity include osteoporosis and
osteoarthritis. The prevalence of each of these disorders is pretty scary. For
osteoporosis, it is estimated that 44 million Americans and over 50% of those
44 million are over 50. For osteoarthritis, approximately 27 million adults in
the US suffer. There are a number of modifiable risk factors for both
disorders. The biggest risk factor is physical inactivity, but others can
include tobacco us, being thin, or underweight, alcohol abuse and many more.
Just eliminating these problems from your everyday routine or lifestyle can
help to prevent the horrible disorders from happening to you!
This is very important information that people need to know. It is also very scary information, because the prevalence in the U.S. is so large. But it is a plus the the greatest factor is physical activity because that is such an easy thing to change in to one's lifestyle. And everyone should be physical active! Thank you for sharing this important information!
ReplyDeleteI would totally agree with Megan, the biggest factor is physical activity and all you have to do is walk everyday to help. In a class i have here at SRU, Dr. Nichols said that literally walking everyday for 30 minutes can help with all these problems. The fact that some people choose to simply not do this is upsetting as a physical educator.
